Sclerotherapy - Fibrovein (Thread Vein Removal) Aftercare
& Emergency Contact Information

Thank you for choosing Ya Wee Butey for your Sclerotherapy treatment. Please follow these aftercare instructions carefully to achieve the best results.

Microsclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosing solution (Fibrovein 0.2%) into small surface veins (thread or spider veins). The solution irritates the vein wall, causing it to collapse and gradually fade over several weeks.

It is normal to see bruising, redness, and mild tenderness in the treated areas immediately after the procedure.

Immediately After Treatment

Compression is key.

  • You will need to purchase compression stockings for immediately after treatment.

  • Keep these on for at least 1 week following treatment.

  • After this period, wear your compression stockings during the day for at least another 7 days (or longer if advised).

Mobility helps healing.

  • Walk for 10–15 minutes immediately after treatment and continue to walk regularly over the next few days.

  • Gentle walking helps improve circulation and prevents blood clots.

Keep treated areas clean and dry.

  • Avoid very hot baths or showers for 48 hours — use lukewarm water only.

For the First Week

Do’s

Wear your compression stockings daily as directed.

Keep mobile — gentle walking and light activity are encouraged.

Elevate your legs when resting to reduce swelling.

Use paracetamol if needed for mild discomfort (avoid ibuprofen or aspirin unless prescribed).

Don’t

Vigorous exercise (running, cycling, gym workouts) for 5–7 days.

Hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs for 1 week.

Sunbeds, fake tan, or direct sun exposure until bruising has fully faded.

Flying for at least 2 weeks (to minimise risk of swelling or thrombosis).

Waxing, laser hair removal, or other leg treatments for 2 weeks.

Scratching or picking at any scabs — let them heal naturally.

What to Expect During Healing

  • Mild bruising and redness are normal and may last up to 2 weeks.

  • Small lumps, tenderness, or itching can occur — this is part of the healing process.

  • Veins may appear darker or more visible before they start to fade; results become clearer over several weeks.

  • Brown pigmentation may occur temporarily where veins were treated — this usually fades gradually.

Helping the Healing Process

💧 Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet.
🧴 Moisturise the treated areas gently once skin is intact and irritation has subsided (after about 48 hours).
🚶‍♀️ Keep active but avoid standing still for long periods.
🧦 Continue wearing your compression stockings as recommended.
🌤 Protect treated areas from sun exposure with SPF 30+ daily.
